Plant Care & Adaptation FAQ
“My plant looks a bit different from the website photo. Is something wrong?”
Not at all! Think of the website photo as a “professional headshot.” In reality, aquatic plants are incredibly dynamic. Many are grown emersed (above water) in our facility because it makes them hardier for travel. Once they are submersed (underwater) in your tank, they will transition, often changing leaf shape and color.
“The leaves look a little limp or dull. Should I worry?”
Don’t panic. Transit is a quiet journey in the dark. Once your plants get a taste of your aquarium’s light and nutrients, they will “wake up.” Give them 3 to 7 days to acclimate, and you’ll see them start to perk up and reach for the light.
“How should I prep my plants before planting?”
To give your new arrivals the best start, follow these three steps:
1. Rinse: Gently rinse the plants in room-temperature dechlorinated water.
2. Trim: Use sharp scissors to trim any bruised leaves or excessively long roots (this actually encourages new growth!).
3. Plant: Secure them in your substrate or attach them to driftwood/rocks as per the variety’s specific needs.
What are the ‘Right Conditions’ for them to thrive?”
While every species is unique, the “Big Three” remain the same:
1. Light: Ensure a consistent light cycle (usually 6–8 hours).
2. Nutrients: Use a quality liquid fertilizer or root tabs.
3. Patience: Nature doesn’t rush, and neither should you. Give them time to adapt to your water chemistry.
